Colour analysis is when a trained colour consultant determines the best colours to harmonise with you according to your hair, eyes and skin tone.
This service is being talked about more and more recently as people become more willing to invest in themselves and acknowledge how much time and money can be saved from this service. This week Sian, one of my London College of Style tutors, was on This Morning Britain sharing the wonders of colour analysis, the beauty of wearing the right colours and how it can change your life. Since qualifying with distinction in Colour Analysis I am now offering this service in my studio in the New Forest near Romsey. Please see the bookings section to book or get in touch via email or use the contact forms on my web site.
Wearing the right colours and especially bright colours is referred to as dopamine dressing as it triggers dopamine, a happy hormone. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter produced by the hypothalamus, a small region of the brain that helps you feel pleasure. It’s an important part of our bodies’ reward system, meaning the brain releases dopamine when you do things that feel good or pleasurable or when you complete a task.
‘Dopamine Dressing’ refers to wearing colours that trigger this feeling and make us feel happy. It is true that when you wear a certain colour your energy lifts making you feel happier, more productive and lifts the spirits of others around you too.
Many people are not confident to experiment with colour. They worry what friends and family might say, or feel that maybe it’s too much effort to try anything other than your go to outfit that is often black. I can help you find your perfect colours and empower you to step into colour with confidence and feel the benefits of a dose of dopamine!
You can start slowly with a lipstick or scarf but as you get more and more compliments and feel more and more confident you will feel happier and realise the power of colour.
Ways to Get Started with Dopamine Dressing: Top Tips For Dopamine Dressing
Try it! – Prepare for tomorrow and plan your outfit to include at least 3 colours. This could be as simple as 2 neutral colours and a pop of colour in the form of a scarf, coloured handbag or shoes.
Be accountable – Be in control of your mood and energy. If you have a few tops in bright colours that you save ‘for best’, wear them tomorrow. Make every day your best day!
Do a wardrobe edit or get me to come in to do one for you! – Go through your wardrobe and see what you have. What percentage of black is there? Ask yourself when was the last time you wore each item. If it’s over a year ask yourself why? How did you last feel when you wore it? Only keep it if it brings you joy, if you feel happy and confident in it.
Set yourself a challenge to wear colour – Do a 3-day or 7-day challenge. Plan your outfits and each day make sure you wear a different colour, make a note of how you have felt at the end of the day. By doing this you will have a clear picture of your happy colours and know how to dress to make yourself happy.
Mindfully shop – Next time you are shopping don’t buy the same thing that you always do; how many black or navy items of clothing do you need? Consciously try on something colourful that you would normally avoid, you may love it!
Accessories – Accessories are the perfect way to start introducing colour if you're feeling unsure. It’s not all about scarves, don’t forget colourful jewellery, belts, headband, hats, handbags and shoes.
